The Purple Monkey
By: Maria Nadelin

Mr. Knapper is a name recognized by many students at North Middle as a usual substitute. However, recently he has some other work besides subbing. He has published a book called The Purple Monkey. The book is an expanded version of a folk tile told at camps, told to Mr. Knapper by a friend.

Originally he told the story while he was subbing in classes to fill the time. Then he decided to expand it into a longer story. The Purple Monkey is more of the kind of story told by storyteller in first person; the book even has gestures and actions to use while telling the story. In fact, Mr. Knapper will tell the story at the Portage, Kalamazoo, and Comstock libraries as well Kalamazoo. It's also available to sign out at North Middle library, Northern High, Central High, Portage Public library, and for sale at NMS library and the Den at Northern.

Mr. Knapper started writing just for fun and the enjoyment of kids, but now he is expanding as a writer into surfing stories. Students look forward to future books from a favorite author.
